media management

Hi,

it would also be cool if some kind of media gallery could be added, where sources could be pictures (categorized), video (user uploads, youtube, soapbox), ...

Users could tag this and comment on pics

This is a good idea, but the chances of making something that will work nicely in a demonstration book like this is probably not going to be feasible. I will try to work this in to the post-production code, but there is a lot of stuff that goes in to video uploading and encoding. YouTube actually reprocesses you whole movie and turns it into a SWF file so that it can be delivered using Flash. This server is very expensive. Also the other problem with video is storage and bandwidth. However the pictures is a much easier thing to deliver, and I will definitely try to fit this in post-book.

nick, thanks for the feedback. Reason that I also focus on the "demonstration" is that I reflect to the TheBeerHouse book :) Regarding video processing, silverlight can do this too by using encoder on the server. you could even upload it to the silverlight.live.com streaming service which displays the videos in VC-1 and not in the low quality of youtube :)
